Dr Stella Engel

Dr Engel is the Director of the State Spinal Cord Injury Service and Clinical Program Director: Rehabilitation and Spinal Medicine Program, Prince of Wales Hospital. As a Senior Staff Specialist since 1987 in rehabilitation and spinal medicine, Dr Engel has extensive experience in all facets of spinal cord injury and rehabilitation medicine

In addition to her clinical expertise and activities, Dr Engel has broad involvement with organisations and committees providing and developing services in spinal cord injuries. These activities include past board membership of Pararquad NSW and the Paraplegic Benefit Fund Australia and participation on committees such as the Motor Accident Authority of NSW Community Participation Project Steering Committee.

Her current research activities are as the principal researcher to test if post spinal cord injury osteoporosis can be prevented /ameliorated by medication.

A key area of interest is the development of the Prince of Wales Hospital multidisciplinary outpatient service and determining how best to provide accessible life long health services and complication prevention post spinal cord injury.

In the past 2 years Dr Engel has also assumed the responsibility of providing clinical leadership and coordination of the State Spinal Cord Injury Service including development of the Spinal Outreach Service, rural initiatives and the Spinal Cord Injury Database.
