NSW Government disability policy

 The goal of the NSW Government is a society in which people with disabilities and their carers live as full citizens with the best possible quality of life, independence and participation.

The NSW Government Disability Policy Framework maps out ways for NSW Government agencies to plan and adjust their programs to make their services more accessible to people with disabilities. It requires agencies to develop and submit Disability Action Plans which detail to the people of NSW, through the Parliament, the details of how they are acheiving their goals.

Office of the Director of Equal Opportunity in Public Employment
The Director of Equal Opportunity in Public Employment is responsible for administering the EEO program which aims to achieve fair outcomes for everyone in Public Sector employment and to enhance employment opportunities for people with disabilities, along with other EEO groups.

Disability Access – Whole of Life, All of Life
The Department of Education and Training launched this new site in December 2003 to coincide with the International Day of People with a Disability. It’s a one-stop shop to a wide range of state and federal government and community sites.

Accessible Transport Action Plan for NSW Transport Agencies

Accessible Transport Maps
Maps showing accessible rail, bus and ferry services throughout Sydney CBD and Metropolitan region, the Central Coast and Hunter Valley, Illawarra and the Southern Highlands, and accessible Countrylink stations throughout rural and regional Australia.

Taxi Transport Subsidy Scheme
The NSW Ministry of Transport administers the Taxi Transport Subsidy Scheme, which assists residents of NSW who are unable to use public transport because of a qualifying severe and permanent disability.

CityRail – Disability Access
Provides information on planning your trip and a list of wheelchair accessible railway stations and bus services.

Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport
Contains links to information about the Commonwealth Government’s Standards for Accessible Public Transport (and Amendments recently tabled in Parliament) formulated under the Disability Discrimination Act.
